Dept of Optometry of SRM University Hosts Academic Event

 

Developing Clinical Empathy: Enhancing Patients’ satisfaction session by Dr. A Mahalingam, Managing Director and Senior Consultant of Chennai`s TwinTech Academy and President of the Association for Healthcare Management Professionals - India on this occassion.

Dr. A.Mahalingam emphasized the crucial role of empathy in healthcare, particularly in the realm of optometry. He underscored the positive outcomes associated with empathetic practices, including enhanced patient outcomes, compliance, satisfaction, communication, and perception.

Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of effective communication and understanding in fostering trust between eye care providers and their patients. He stressed the importance of ensuring follow-up and continuity of care for optimal patient outcomes.

On March 23rd, World Optometry Day was commemorated worldwide. In recognition of this significant day, the Department of Optometry at SRM University (SRM Institute of Science and Technology), located in Kattankulathur, Chennai, organized a notable academic event on its campus.

The program commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Nitin M Nagarkar, the esteemed Dean of the university.

Expert Talk - Ms. Ashwini DL, an optometrist, shared insights into career opportunities in industries and research and development within the field.

The event was graced by distinguished personalities including Dr. Aishwarya Radhakrishnan, Dr. R Dharani, Dr. B Radha Krishnan - Head of the Ophthalmology Department, Dr. A Sundaram - Advisor, Vice Principal Dr. R Balakrishnan, faculty members, and over 200 optometry students and professionals.

As part of the program, outstanding optometry students were honored, and engaging activities such as a debate on professionalism, music quiz, and ramp walk were conducted, enriching the academic experience and fostering camaraderie among attendees.

On March 8th, 2024, Nurse S. Jayalakshmi of the Vellanur Village Health Nurses conducted an enlightening session for school students, focusing on crucial aspects of health education. The session encompassed various essential topics aimed at promoting overall well-being among the children.

Nurse Jayalakshmi emphasized the significance of personal hygiene, shedding light on practices such as handwashing, showering, bathing, and teeth brushing. These fundamental habits are integral for maintaining good health and preventing the spread of diseases among children.

Moreover, the session addressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness in clothes and shoes, underlining their role in preventing infections and promoting a hygienic lifestyle.

Furthermore, Nurse Jayalakshmi sensitively discussed the concept of "Good & Bad Touches," equipping the students with knowledge to recognize and respond appropriately to different types of physical contact. This crucial aspect of education aims to empower children with the confidence to protect themselves from potential harm.

Additionally, the session delved into the topic of menstruation cycles, providing essential information to both female and male students. By addressing this natural biological process, Nurse Jayalakshmi contributed to breaking taboos surrounding menstruation and promoting a culture of understanding and support.

Moreover, the session underscored the importance of moral values and ethics in shaping individuals' behaviors and interactions. Nurse Jayalakshmi imparted valuable lessons on integrity, compassion, and respect, nurturing the students' character development.

The impact of the session was palpable, as both students and teachers expressed profound satisfaction and gratitude for the valuable insights gained.  Since its inception in 1975, International Women’s Day has served as a powerful reminder of women’s indispensable contributions to society and the imperative of gender equality. This year, under the inspiring theme 'Invest in women: Accelerate progress,' the importance of directing resources and support towards women for societal advancement was underscored.

The vibrant spirit of International Women’s Day reverberated in Vellanur Village on March 8th, 2024, as the community came together under the leadership of Vellanur Village Panchayat President, Shri A. Prabhakaran. Dr. A. Mahalingam, a distinguished healthcare professional and President of the Association of Healthcare Management Professionals - India, set the tone with a warm welcome address, emphasizing the significance of the occasion.

A distinguished gathering of guests, including medical officers from the government hospital such as Dr. Rajesh, Dr. Indra, Dr. Indhumathi, along with nurses, school teachers, headmasters, and representatives from various social organizations, added depth to the event. Each participant shared insights into the pivotal role of women in society and the importance of celebrating their achievements.

Mr. Prabhakaran's thoughtful gesture of honoring women with shawls and sarees served as a poignant acknowledgment of their invaluable contributions. The event, which witnessed the active participation of over 200 women, organized under the guidance and support of Shri A. Prabhakaran, garnered immense praise and appreciation from all quarters.

Notably, the presence and involvement of nurses and doctors from the Vellanur Village - Kollumedu Government Primary Health Center, government schools, and Anganwadi teachers highlighted the community's collective commitment to women's empowerment.

வெள்ளனூர் கிராம பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவர் ஸ்ரீ அ. பிரபாகரன் தலைமையில் சமூகம் ஒன்று சேர்ந்ததால், சர்வதேச மகளிர் தினத்தின் துடிப்பான உணர்வு, மார்ச் 8, 2024 அன்று வெள்ளனூர் கிராமத்தில் எதிரொலித்தது.

திரு டாக்டர். அ மகாலிங்கம்,தலைவர் - இந்திய மருத்துவ மேலாண்மை வல்லுனர்களின் கூட்டமைப்பு.இந்த நிகழ்வின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை வலியுறுத்தி, அன்பான வரவேற்பு உரையுடன் தொனியை அமைத்தார்.

அரசு மருத்துவமனையின் மருத்துவ அலுவலர்களான டாக்டர் ராஜேஷ், டாக்டர் இந்திரா, டாக்டர் இந்துமதி, செவிலியர்கள், பள்ளி ஆசிரியர்கள், தலைமையாசிரியர்கள் மற்றும் பல்வேறு சமூக அமைப்புகளின் பிரதிநிதிகள் உட்பட சிறப்பு விருந்தினர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டது நிகழ்வுக்கு ஆழம் சேர்த்தது. ஒவ்வொரு பங்கேற்பாளரும் சமூகத்தில் பெண்களின் முக்கிய பங்கு மற்றும் அவர்களின் சாதனைகளைக் கொண்டாடுவதன் முக்கியத்துவம் பற்றிய நுண்ணறிவுகளைப் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டனர்.

திரு. அ.பிரபாகரனின் சிந்தனைமிக்கச் செயலால், பெண்களுக்குச் சால்வை மற்றும் சேலைகள் வழங்கி கௌரவித்தது அவர்களின் விலைமதிப்பற்ற பங்களிப்புகளை உணர்த்தும் வகையில் அமைந்தது.

திரு அ. பிரபாகரனின் வழிகாட்டுதல் மற்றும் ஆதரவின் கீழ் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்ட 200 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பெண்களின் சுறுசுறுப்பான பங்கேற்பைக் கண்ட இந்த நிகழ்வு அனைத்து தரப்பினரிடமிருந்தும் மகத்தான பாராட்டுக்களையும் பாராட்டுக்களையும் பெற்றது.

வெள்ளனூர் கிராமம் - கொள்ளுமேடு அரசு ஆரம்ப சுகாதார நிலையம், அரசுப் பள்ளிகள் மற்றும் அங்கன்வாடி ஆசிரியர்களின் வருகையும், செவிலியர்கள் மற்றும் மருத்துவர்களின் பங்களிப்பும், பெண்களின் அதிகாரமளிக்கும் சமூகத்தின் கூட்டு அர்ப்பணிப்பை எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறது.

We are all aware that Padma Bhusan Dr S. S Badrinath was a legendary Ophthalmologists ( renowned Vitreo - Retina Surgery  in Asia) and he founded the Medical Research Foundation of which Sankara Nethralaya is the hospital unit, a registered society, and a charitable non-profit ophthalmic organization. He dedicated over  four decades of his life to the pursuit of excellence in eye care. His efforts in establishing Sankara Nethralaya in 1978 transformed it into aglobally aclaimed institution, offering affordable eye care to millions. He is a visionery leader his legacy extends beyound the opertion room. His committment to Ophthalmoc Research, education paved the way of generations of skilled eye care professionals. He believed in the power of knowledge to drive change, inspiring countless individuals to koin the fight against blindness in our country.

 

Dr SS Badrinath`s passing away on November 21,2023, left a void in the medical community, but his impact endures through the lives he touched and the sight he restored.

 

For his charitable works throughout the years, Dr SS Badrinath received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri award from the Government of India, which is the third and fourth highest civilian honour in the country, respectively.

 

Celebrating this visionary healer Dr SS Badrinath, On behlf og our Healthcare Association, we request our Govt of Tamilndu running highly successfully under dynamic leadership of our respecred Chief Minster and his cabinet of ministers to name of Road where Sankara Nethralaya Main campus is located is as Padma Bhusan Dr SS Badrinath Road.

 

This is our humble request from the Medical , Paramedical and Healthcare leaders of our Association.24th Febuary 2024 is his birth Anniversary, We shal be happy and greateful , on this day this announcement to be announched by our honourable Chief of Tamilnadu.
