Professor Datuk Dr. Muthusamy hails from
a family of rubber tappers who came to Malaya and worked as indentured
labourers earning 13 cents a day.
Though he came from a non-English
speaking family, he emerged as the First Boy in Primary one and had a double
promotion to Primary 3.
His is among the very few in the batch
of 1962 who had 2 First Grades, namely
1) Cambridge Overseas School Certificate
2) Federation of Malaya Certificate
(FMC).
He was very active in the Literary and
Debating society from Form 1.
He was the first Chairman of the
Historical and Geographical of the school.
In 2019, received the BEST STUDENT OF
THE CENTURY ( Medicine) from his alma mater, Ibrahim School, Sungai Patani,
Kedah, Malaysia
He went to India to study medicine in
Tanjore Medical College, India which was the foundation to success in his life.
He did his training in ophthalmology in the Eye Department of Kuala
Lumpur General Hospital, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In recognition of his ability, he was offered a training job WITHOUT
INTERVIEW in the Princess Alexandria Eye Pavilion (Royal Infirmary of
Edinburgh) in the United Kingdom.
He received the Diploma in Ophthalmology from Royal College Physicians of
London and the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1977.
He was admitted as a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1978.
In 1989, he was admitted without examination as a Fellow of the Royal College
of Ophthalmologist. He was admitted as a member of the Academy of Medicine
Malaysia in 1991.
Professor Datuk Dr. P Muthusamy is an eminent ophthalmologist and a
household name in Sabah.
He is the first Malaysian Eye Specialist in the State of Sabah in
Malaysia
In 1978, he along with a colleague, established the first Medical
Specialist Hospital in Sabah, the KOTA KINABALU SPECIALIST CENTRE. It is now a
premier medical centre serving the people of Sabah.
He established a name for himself by his professional proficiency and
also through his yeomen service to the people of Sabah the Lions Club.
Under the auspices of the Lions Club, has screened the vision of
thousands of School Children, provided free glasses and done hundreds and
hundreds of cataract operations and corneal operations.
In November 1990, he has received a PLAQUE OF APPRECIATION from the Mayor
of Seoul, “in appreciation of great service including the corneal
transplantation for those who suffered from disabled eyesight and also for his
great contribution of friendship and amity between Malaysia and the Republic of
Korea”
The state government has awarded his Datuk and Justice of Peace in
recognition of his service.

THIS IS THE ONLY UNIVERSITY OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD.All courses are
conducted free of charge as a service to International Ophthalmology.
Dr Muthusamy pioneered and improvised several techniques in the treatment
of eye care and surgery
The courses are recommended by the International Council of Ophthalmology
and Royal Colleges in the UK.
Hundreds of ophthalmologists from INDIA have benefited and are benefiting
from this university.
He is the only Ophthalmologist in Malaysia who has designed an instrument
called the Muthusamy Sub Tenon Cannula which is used by ophthalmologists
throughout the world.
In 2018, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Malaysian Society of
Ophthalmologist for distinguished service to the Society and Ophthalmology
services in Malaysia.
The Muthusamy Medal is awarded yearly by the Royal College of Surgeons of
Edinburgh to the best candidate in the Final FRCS Ophthalmology exam.

He is the first Adjunct Professor, University Malaysia Sabah.
He is the Examinations Coordinator for the International Council of Ophthalmology.
He is the OVERSEAS ADVISER on the
SURGICAL SPECIALTY BOARD IN OPHTHALMOLOGY of the Royal College of Surgeons of
Edinburgh.He received the award in 2020, the “101
Most Fabulous Health Care Leader 2020”
With his partners, he is building an Eye hospital in Coimbatore to serve
the people of India.
He plans to make this the MOST SOPHISTICATED EYE HOSPITAL IN INDIA. Using
this as a model, he is planning to build 100 hospitals in India and all over the
world in 10 years.
In 1988, he has been appointed by the High Commission of India to
authenticate Sponsorship Declarations etc.
He is the incumbent President of the Sabah Indian Association.
